believe it was chomsky who called *as* kennedy administration's
'official
historian', guess it says something about certain u.s. political elites
who
have apparent epiphanies, but fact that transformations occur *after*
they leave office/positions certainly reduces significance of what
they
say: eisenhower warning of 'military industrial complex', rickover's
concern with 'nuclear navy' built, mcnamara crying about plight of
third
world poor upon his resignation as world bank prez, so does *as* 'get
some due' for having admitted to some complicity in contributing to
'expansive presidency'...

of course, *as* titled his book _imperial presidency_, for him the
office
during nixon's tenure had become imperial, not u.s. foreign policy,
not
u.s. political economy, *as* was bothered by *presidential* character
of
nixon's 'presidential war', not war itself or rationale for it, his
current
analysis of bush/iraq is more of the same, it says something, but not
much, as born-again purveyor of 'restrictive' presidency' *as* offers
pipedream (all the while continuing to merrily praise kennedy)... mh
