Anwyl (hello, in Welsh)

I was asked to (last week) and will teach a course, Introduction to Politics, over the autumn and have JUST started working on the syllabus. THis will be the first time that I will teach politics in the US; I have previously taught the International Politics of Africa...

Can anyone recommend a two really good introductory books and one or more films, please.

The two books should, ideally, be (1) a basic introduction, but that includes issues like Feminism, Race etc... and (2) on 'Ideas and Ideologies'that includes the 'critical tradition and/or emancipatory ideals etc.

The person who was meant to teach the course ordered a book which SEEMS bland and unCritical.

Oh, and don't hesitate to recommend papers, or chapters. I also would like to prepare a study pack. I will of course, be grateful for anything this esteemed bunch of .... recommend.

Remember I am in the South; where things can be, kinda, conservative.

Towards a Socialist Peace and Justice!
