[Marxism] Independence is Not Nothing

The nations subject to western imperialism have a double struggle -- a
struggle for independence as a nation and for liberation within that
struggle. Very few have succeeded in both of those struggles. In many
even national independence remains only a nominal achievement, ruled as
they are by elites loyal first to western (usually U.S.) interests.
Some, however, have achieved national independence though the socialist
elements in the struggle were eventually crushed (for the time being).
And in those cases (China, Vietnam, Iran, India) who would dare say that
the sacrifices of the revolutionary struggle were in vain! National
independence in a world of globalized capitalism is still of immense
importance.
