I think it's kind of ironic that all the militias you hear about are based
upon right wing, ultranationalist ideologies. Where are the leftist
militias? You'd think with the rightward shift in politics over the last
couple decades, the ultra-right wouldn't see a need to arm itself.

If there were leftist militias I imagine they would be put down in a timely
fashion. A comrade and I used to go target shooting after meeting with our
Marxist study group once a month. We talked about how sad it was that you
couldn't join an organization like the NRA without them taking your money
and funnelling it into the Republican Party, and entertained the idea of
starting up a leftist gun club. We never went any further than talking about
it, though, because both of us feared that we might end up as guests of the
Alaska Department of Corrections.
