But imprisonment is reducing his chances of future employment, making him
much more likely to join the ranks of the unemployed after prison, thus
swelling in size "the reserve army of the unemplyed" whose presence increase
the downward pressure on wages of low-wage workers. In that sense, even in
Marxist terms, imprisonment plays a vital role in enhancing exploitation.
