Nestor Gorojovsky:

The whole Menem presidency was marked by a passing over to
foreign (sometimes private, more usually state-owned foreign)
interests of the large structure of Argentinian capitalism that
had materialized in the vast network of public utilities and
direct productive companies (such as oil extraction, coal
extraction, iron ore extraction and steel production, etc.) that
constituted the bulk of this massive national enterprise.
Destroyed the most dynamic forces of the working class by both
military terror and hyperinflation, the only (though quite
muffled and most times stupid), voices of opposition could come
from the military. And the 1976-82 experience was wonderful in
order to have them shut up.

The torture, the flights of death, the concentration camps, the
desaparecidos, the kidnapping and sale of babies, the loot of
private homes, all the delights that the Argentinian military had
learnt from the imperialist instructors, were used by Alfonsín
and Menem to help keep the military watch silently how the
industrial sector was dismantled. It is funny to note that the
ordeal of the victims was thus used to destroy all that the
victims had been struggling to defend and expand. The American
Ambassador Todman, for example, came here with ONLY ONE mission:
to have the Condor II missilistic project stamped out of earth.
