WWP Statement on Hussein Execution reads, "Whatever one's evaluation of
Saddam Hussein's role as president of Iraq, his role in history has been set
by this murder. He died as an Iraqi leader who stood up to invaders from the
most powerful empire the world has known."

My impression was always that Hussein was an accommodationist every time the
opportunity to be one turned up.

That said, he was killed for ordering arrests without a warrant, torture,
and execution without a fair trial ultimately executioners sitting in
Washington ordering arrests without a warrant, torture, and executions
without a fair trial.
