Must socialists not win parliamentary elections?

That's the question which come up in me while reading some of the
contributions on the current situation in Bolivia.

Some claim, that since Evo Morales has won the elections for the
countries president, and taken office, he can't but enforce bourgeois
privileges against working people, since he sits on top of a bourgeois
state machinery.

So, what should a socialist do confronted with the elections for
offices in the bourgeois democracy?

Refrain from standing candidates? Refuse to take office when elected,
and ceding the post to some avowed bourgeois? Or run only fake
candidacies, doing everything possible to avoid being elected?

Or take up the challenge and use the office to lead the real mass
struggle?

Comradely yours,
