Stew Albert 1939-2006

Long-time activist, Stew Albert died January in Portland, OR after a
long bout with liver cancer. Stew was a charter member of the Youth
International Party (Yippies), along with his close friends Jerry
Rubin and Abbie Hoffman. He was among those Yippies who were arrested
in Chicao for nominating a pig for president, but the other one won.
He was also an unindicted co-conspirator in the famous Chicago
Conspiracy trial. He later moved to Berkeley, CA and was active in
all the left-wing strugges that occurred there from 1969 through the
70's and 80's, not the least of which was his unsucessful run for
Sheriff of Alameida County in support of the Black Panthers, who were
being oppressed by the then-current sheriff.

I hope his friends could add testimonials about his life.
