[Marxism] RE: Marx , Engels and racism

David Levy & Sandra Peart have written an influential book arguing that 
Carlyle and other opponents of the market were racist, but people like 
John Stuart Mill were not.  Mill, of course, was something of a social 
democrat & many other free marketeers were virulently racist.

On the other hand, many of the progressives in the US and UK were 
strong supporters of eugenics, which seemed to be in sync with their 
ideas of using the state to improve efficiency. Tim Leonard of 
Princeton has done that research.  It is embarassing to read so many 
otherwise progressive people falling for such crap.

Here again, some of the supporters of eugenics he cites were not at all 
progressive.
