  ah, that is something special and proprietary, but commercial only,
even receivable without a satellite dish. XM even operates several 
satellites. See

  There is also Worldspace which apparently developed the technical 
concept used also by XMradio. <http://www.worldspace.com> Worldspace 
covers the Old World continents. 

   As to outside reports one might want to search the web for it; I 
found e.g. <http://radio.about.com/od/satelliteradio/>, there are also 
articles on Wikipedia on the services.
