Yes, I agree with you on this part.  I just wanted to suggest that
young people in the Middle East would be open to all sorts of ideas,
including socialism, if someone presented it to them in a way that
made sense to them.  They are not hostage to neo-traditionalists of
the Al Qaeda tendency, nor are they alien to a hope for socialist
modernity.  The problem is that Marxism is invisible to most of them
as a living, evolving practice that has a great power to reshape the
real world, even on a continental scale.  I want young people in the
Middle East, as well as the larger Islamic world, to pay attention to
what's happening in Latin America.

Today is Hugo Chávez Frías's birthday.  He will arrive in Tehran this
evening, beginning his three-day visit to the country.  I want
Iranians and Arabs, Shiites and Sunnis, especially youths among them,
to hear what he has to say.  I want them to want to study Latin
America, visit it, make friends with Latin Americans.  I want them to
come up with their own regional project comparable to what's going on
in Latin America.
