Cindy Sheehan to Address Cleveland Antiwar Meeting Saturday, December 2
Peace activist and Gold Star mother Cindy Sheehan will address a public
meeting Saturday, December 2, at 7 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Crowne
Plaza Hotel, 777 St. Clair Ave. Sheehans son, Casey, a Specialist in the
U.S. Army, was killed in action in Iraq on April 4, 2004, along with several
other soldiers who volunteered to be part of a Rapid Reaction Force to aid
other American troops. Sheehan became active in the antiwar movement after
her sons death and was one of nine founding members of Gold Star Families
for Peace, which was formed in January, 2005 to end the occupation of Iraq
and provide support for the families of fallen soldiers.
Sheehan attracted international attention in August 2005 for her extended
demonstration at a peace camp outside President George W. Bushs Crawford,
Texas ranch. She unsuccessfully attempted to meet with the president to get
his explanation of the noble cause which resulted in her sons death.
Other speakers at the December 2 evening program will include labor leaders
John Ryan, Executive Secretary of the North Shore Federation of Labor, and
John Wilhelm, President of the Hospitality Division of the UNITE HERE Union;
Clayola Brown, President of the A. Philip Randolph Institute; and U.S.
Representative Dennis Kucinich. Entertainment will be provided by popular
folk singer and labor troubadour, Anne Feeney.
The program is sponsored by U.S. Labor Against the War, a coalition of 140
labor organizations calling for the immediate withdrawal of all American
military forces from Iraq. The event is part of the National Labor
Conference Against the Iraq War being held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel
December 2-3. The general public is invited and a donation of $10 is
requested for admission. Call 216-736-4718 for further information or visit
