Too bad for those who postulate this convergence between Iran
and Washington that Washington is operating an ever-tighter
blockade against Iran, employing all the traditional methods
from trying to prevent foreign countries from doing business,
preventing U.S. nationals from sending money to families and
friends there, and operating a massive destabilization and
disruption program targeting the Islamic Republic. If there
were really any convergence between them, you might see the
U.S. lowering rather than raising the level of hostilities.

Washington and Tehran talking is a good thing because the
Iranians are under the gun and don't want to be attacked
militarily. It appears they are doing everything they can
to avoid being attacked by Washington. If only Washington
would normalize relations and negotiate with the Iranians
over disputed issues, war could be probably be avoided.

AVOIDING A WAR IS TANTAMOUNT TO WINNING IT.

US Attack on Iran Would Mean Suicide

Tehran, Aug 4 (Prensa Latina) The Chairman of the Expediency
Discernment Council of Iran, Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, said on
Saturday that a military attack on his country would mean suicide for
the United States.

The Islamic Republic always showed enough strength to face up any
threat, and if the Americans attack us they will suffer serious
damage, worse than those in Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, and other
countries," stressed Rafsanjani.

In a statement to Al Arabiya television channel, the Iranian
Ayatollah said that he has a feeling that the US, Great Britain, and
their allies, even NATO, are in a dead end in the Persian Gulf
country and, and Afghanistan.

Responding a question whether the situation created in those two
countries means a threat for the Persian country, Rafsanjani said
that from the psychological and historical point of view powers in
those situations act in an abnormal way and in different directions.

Anyone note no protest out of Washington over the Libyan nuke
deal? There seems to be a lot of anger developing in France
over Sarkozy's deal to give Libya help building a nuclear
power plant. Libya released those Bulgarian nurses and the
Palestinian man who had studied medicine there. Washington
has ended its blockade of Libya as well, and tourists are
starting to go there and business people are looking into
investments in Libya now that that US blockade is ended.
Libya is also an Islamic country

Washington isn't in a position to do or say much about this
because of its approval of the Indian program to expand the
nuclear power program there. Only Iran being singled out as
the country which is is not to be allowed to develop its
nuclear potential. I still don't like any kind of nukes,
but why should Iran be denied what India and Libya have
permission to build?

France-Libya Weapon Purchase Deals Reached

Tripoli, Aug 3 (Prensa Latina) The Foreign Affairs Secretariat of
the General People's Congress of Libya confirmed on Friday that its
country signed agreements with France to buy weapons. A spokesman
from the Foreign Ministry said that one of the deals includes the
acquisition of Milan anti tank missiles, totalling over 168,000 Euros
(US$ 230 million)

The second, totaling 128 million Euros (US$175 million), was for
advanced Tetra communications and surveillance equipment for the
police. The Libyan announcement came after the remarks made by French
Minister of Defense Herve Morin, ratifying the interest of the Arab
nation to buy weapons. The European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co.
(EADS) corroborated in Paris that negotiations for the purchase of
weapons began over a year ago.
