John Lennon's Piano Becomes a Peace Messenger

New York, Aug 6 (Prensa Latina) A simple Steinway mahogany piano,
made in 1971, used by John Lennon to write his famous "Imagine" has
become a symbolic instrument to propagate pacifism.

British singer George Michael, an admirer of The Beatles, bought the
piano seven years ago at an auction, and since than has been bringing
it to places in the United States where violence has happened

The piano has been to Dealy Plaza, in Dallas, where ex President John
F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963; to the former Lorraine Hotel in
Memphis, where Martin Luther King was shot in 1968, and in New
Orleans, where Hurricane Katrina caused death and destruction.

George Michael prefers to remain in the background, letting the piano
be the star, and people are even allowed to approach and touch it
with their hands.

The symbolic musical instrument appears at every site included in The
Piano Magic Peace Project, where a group of workers using white
gloves place it on the chosen stages.

The idea of bringing a message of peace with the piano originated in
2006, during a war photograph exhibit in Goss Gallery, Dallas.

The tour will continue in London, and will conclude on December 8 in
the Dakota Building in New York, where in 1980 John Lennon was
murdered, but his vision of all people living in peace, lives on.
