Demise of cheap credit has put an end to talk of new deals and promises  
tough times ahead for private equity groups' existing investments.......With  
equity markets sliding, buy-out funds are losing the implicit guarantee that  
companies bought today could be sold at a higher price in the  future-FT14/08/2007

David Walker, comptroller general of the US-in charge of the Government  
Accountability Office-has drawn parallels with the end of the Roman empire with  
"declining moral values and political civility at home, an over-confident and  
over-extended military in foreign lands and fiscal irresponsibilty by the  
central government... the fiscal imbalance meant the US was "on a path toward an  
explosion of debt. With the looming retirement of baby boomers, spiralling  
healthcare costs, plummeting savings rates and increasing reliance on foreign

and other outside jobs. The shadow cabinet has 32 remunerated outside roles.
