Reconciliation needs justice -- not Howard's hypocrisy
<http://www.greenleft.org.au/2007/728/37748>
On October 12, Australia's PM John Howard announced his plan to hold a
referendum to alter the preamble to the constitution to include an
acknowledgment of the original inhabitants of Australia. This is a
departure from Howard’s position against `symbolic' gestures of
reconciliation — a position that in the past has earned him the ire of
Indigenous groups.

Claims by immigration minister Kevin Andrews that African refugees are
less capable of resettling in Australia than other migrant groups have
been met with widespread condemnation by welfare, community and human
rights organisations.
