I've started plowing through the background on this, which can be read
on the socialistunity blog: http://socialistunity.com/. I really don't
know anything about Socialist Unity, so this is not an endorsement of
their analysis. But for basic information, they seem okay. Einde is
correct. The FI in Great Britain has been critical of the SWP for some
time now. I watched a video of Alan Thornett of the ISG presenting the
case against the SWP.

I plan to look at the Respect controversy but am also interested in
trying to figure out how these attempts at broader left or socialist
parties keep going kerblooey. I suspect that the refusal to simply
dissolve old vanguard parties is key. In Venezuela Causa R, never really
a vanguard party to begin with, dissolved itself into the Chavez
campaign. Something like that was required in Great Britain or Australia
but our "Marxist-Leninists" are always trying to figure out a way to
outmaneuver their "opponents", like those card-playing dogs in the
kitschy paintings.
