The Cuban Five should be released - period. They were not spying on the United States, just the terrorist Gussano groups that hurt people and the Cuban Five should not be placed at that level of trading. They did no wrong against the United States people.
I do not believe that people in Cuba's prison AND THEIR FAMILIES as Associated Press reports Raul Castro is willing to do - should be forced to leave Cuba. Family members are not automatically responsible for family members actions in a socialist society. Each person is judged by their actions and their innocence. People in Cuba as in most places on our planet have attachments to their native lands. If people wished to leave voluntarily to another land, I would have no problem, since socialism belives in no artificial nation borders - but not forced to leave.
I also suspect/believe that some of those presently in prison in Cuba might want to serve their time, to then stay in Cuba, rather than be forced into exile. And perhaps some of those in prison, should have their prison time shortened or ended, if they were wrongfully placed in prison for only holding different views. This is different than those who did actual actions.
I remember in the late 1970's many Gays and Lesbians being rounded up and forced to leave Cuba - as undersirables. Before someone on this list states that did not happen - it did and know, because I helped with getting them housing and shelter, when these people reached Florida.
Since I see people on this list now admitting that was wrong - one of those regretable mistakes - perhaps more consideration can be placed on juding these new invividuals and not as groups or their family members - but each person as an individual.
Fairness and not selective policies for some, should be what today is done and for the future. Perhaps it will?
