Ehh, that wasn't what was being discussed (the uses and disadvantages of
history for political life) and you need to be realistic: higher education
does
not have a pristine political history and plays a conflicted role in the
political present, and whether or not one is really related to the other
the vision of "tenured radicals" leading the people from their relatively
comfortable bourgeois positions is not really what is going to move social
change forward. Better not to pin the academic mystique on honest partisans
like Lause, demystifiers of the corporate machine "the higher earning"
really is, or unpolitical men of learning willing to humor the masses in a
spirit of genuine liberalism.
