Princeton University Press) credit Genghis Khan as perhaps the greatest
promoter of economic development.  Their take is that by encompassing
much of the world within a single empire, Genghis Khan created peaceful
conditions that trade to progress peacefully.  The result was an
enormous improvement in the rate of economic growth.
