John Riddell has an important article, "From Marx to Morales: Indigenous
Socialism and the Latin Americanization of Marxism," at
http://mrzine.monthlyreview.org/riddell170608.html
He provides many useful examples of how the struggles and thoughts of
indigenous peoples, as supported by Mariategui, Guevara, the Bolsheviks,
etc., enrich Marxism.
But his conclusion is dead wrong:
"On all these points, the Bolshevik experience closely matches the
revolutionary policies toward Indigenous peoples now being implemented in
Bolivia and other Latin American countries."
The real implementers of the tradition he correctly upholds are the
mostly-indigenous workers, peasants and indigenous of Bolivia who formed
embryonic soviets and were about to link them up into a national government
-- until Morales derailed their movement, and having done so, proceeded to
accommodate local and international capital whenever possible.
