I agree. The Spanish "Patria" is not easy to translate.
Ethimologically it means "the land of the fathers", that is
Fatherland. But it is also related to "homeland" in practical and
everyday use.

I tend to believe that this is a consequence of the fact that our
national revolutions are not fully accomplished. Thus, patriotism here
has a different sense than elsewhere.

And so do terms such as "Patria".
