I'm afraid that for a piece that purports to challenge the Western media
spectacle, this falls into some increasingly hackneyed stereotypes:

"As in Iran, none of the poorer folks from the provinces bothered to show up
because they kinda liked their pandering president, even if the west
couldn't stand him."

There is no proof that "the poorer folks from the provinces" actually
approve of Ahmadinejad more than the urban poor (who are the majority). In
fact, the rural poor have done very badly out of Ahmadinejad's presidency,
despite the efforts at pre-election clientelism (
http://djavad.wordpress.com/2009/05/22/the-rural-complaint/) and a great
many of those poor rural areas have traditionally voted against the
conservative bloc.
