There is a missing word in Frank Thompson's "Solidarity" article on Cuba 
[and, surprisingly, on Barry Sheppard's comment]: 'blockade'.
Oh, he does use the term, 'embargo'--- but only to quickly assert: 
"First, however, on any plausible account of the negative economic 
effects of the embargo, the 15 years of massive Soviet subsidies should 
have had a more than compensating positive effect during that period."
    A "more than compensating positive effect"? Presumably behind this 
comment there must be a serious economic analysis--- unfortunately not 
present in this piece.
