That it might not have been in some places and times doesn't change
the fact that the "off the pig" rhetoric was widely used.  That said,
I don't think the Panthers engaged in violence against any but their
own...unless it was self-defense.

The real political problem was what underlay the rhetoric...the hope
that angry words would influence government policies.  There were real
limits as to how well this would or could work.

And the alternative--a reliance in mobilizing the black
community--were the way to get the best possible result and, in the
process, to build stronger political muscle for the next struggle....
