These same kinds of exchanges are not only taking place on email lists,
blogs and all over the web, but around water coolers and in lunch rooms all

The apologists are generally not really ideologically committed to
anything. Most seem to be either employed in once capacity as another by a
publication or a union or some association connected to the Democratic Party
or have deep family connections to a nostalgic idea of the party that has
gone unchallenged for years. They are remarkably incapable of making a real
argument, and rely entirely on wild assertions designed to nip any
discussion in the bud.

I tend to agree that a lot of people who really define themselves as
"progressive" or "liberal" may be waking up to Obama and the actual function
of the Democratic Party.

Would that we had a broad third party force capable of sweeping a viable
strategy into place for them with a repeat of 2000, though with the aim of
something new rather than a mere one-shot protest . . . and an organized
coherent socialist current of 10,000 to 20,000 members that could form the
core of serious left wing.

The latter should have happened, coming out of the 1970s . . . .
