Not to be snarky, Louis, but do you think that the Cuban working class
actually has meaninigful "democratic control over the social product" that
they create? Obviously, there are big differences between Ahmadinejad or
Lukashenko and Castro, but I've never seen anything to convince me that Cuba
is qualitatively more 'socialist' than Iran, Belarus, China, or France when
workers' democracy - rather than foreign policy, comparative social welfare
statistics, or levels of repression, etc - is the qualifier.

Again, not to be snarky, but as a former Cubaphile, Fidel seems to fit the
'condescending savior' bit as well as anyone.
