India and the Philippines are outstanding examples of revolutionary
struggle, but don’t get much recognition despite going on for decades, or
perhaps because of it. Firstly, repression in the Philippines. Most people
are aware of the repressive period of the Marcos dictatorship in the 1970s
which ended with his ouster by people power in 1986. Figures vary but one
military historian (Alfred McCoy in his book *Closer than Brothers: Manhood
at the Philippine Military Academy*) put the figure under the Marcos years
at over three thousand extrajudicial killings, 35,000 torture victims, and
70,000. . .
