Victorian liberalism was able to define evolution, domesticate it, and
goad it into museums where it could be safely isolated from the wider
world. But they did that with the entire idea of "revolution" at the
time--as they're trying to do with "green" or "justice" or "democracy"
right now. That doesn't make evolution a liberal construct.

At the most basic level, this about change and the possibility of
change. This is way they don't want to teach it in the schools or
talk about it at all, save among those who already know enough to
understand it.

People who don't believe in evolution don't think the world changes
because it doesn't need to change. Everything's as God made it.
Everything's generally as it should be. People who don't believe in
evolution don't believe in ice ages, climate change, or even that such
things should concern us.

Worse, people who don't believe in evolution are insistent that nobody
else should understand it either.
