[Marxism] Prostitution and socialism

Unfortunately many Marxists have been uncomfortable and backward on the subject of sex. They have most often appeared and acted like they were in some religious cult - which is based on their social upbringing and not basedon reality, that sex can be enjoyable and should not be viewed as unnatural or something that should be discouraged outside of marriageand to have children. In 2012 we have a question on this list - what policies should be about the risk of contracting disease with prosititues - and NEVER abalanced concern about the prostitutes welfare and having sexually transmitted diseases! The message coming through is - who caresabout those prostitutes for violating religious cult standards - and male dominated cultural views - sadly amazing and backward! Obviously the answer should be - that unlike under current governments influenced by religious cults, who do not want to spend timeand resources to advance science in eradicating sexually transmitted diseases - and thus inflict diseases on those who seek and enjoysex as punishment - rather provide such resources and allow those seeking sex of more enjoyment in this behavior, without disease. The bigger question is what would a progressive society do to both allow all those seeking sex and remove the unhelathy relationshipsof exploitation and inequality in sexual relationships. Personally I favor public buildings being provided for all those wishing to go there to meet others for free sexual relations. That theseestablishments allow both private space for two people and also spaces for multiple numbers of people to view and participate. Thisallows those who have higher sexual appetitites and interests, who might not be as desirable looking as the previous emailer who askedthis question. Sex and sexual urges are natural things - like wanting and consuming food. Yet too many Marxists have allowed backward mainlyreligious cult based prejudice to cause unneeded hardships to those who prefer sexual pleasure. If one wants to abstain from allsex, that is certainly something to protect and respect as their wishes, but if one wants to engage in multipole partners, that shouldalso be allowed and provided. When we stop viewing sex as just exploitation and conquest/control - and something to be ashmaed of - instead just a hopeful enjoyableexperience that many would like to do - as much as watching or participating in a baseball or chess game, a picnic or a hiking trail. Sex should not be viwed as a financial commodity or a boss exploiting their workers! It should also not be viewed as sinful - especiallysince there are no gods and should be no priests to pass such judgements - on what behavior is appropriate and to be enforced. Andbefore I hear from the backward - yes all sexual activity should be consensual and not be based on unequal power relationships, butthat my comrades is not based on age either in all cases, but in awareness and power relations. In present societies and nation states on this planet, Marxists should oppose laws against prostitution - and not place punishment onthe prostitute and wink approval at the payer in not facing the same or worse punishment. And efforts should be made to providealternative healthy and fun places for those seeking sexual enjoyment - and not for financial gain for some owner of a hetero brothel orGay sex club. Prostitutes and not pimps should benefit from sex work under our current society - and we should move towards a moreequal society in eliminating pay for play - but encouraging and enjoying life that includes for many, much sexual activities and pleasures.
