Who was the first speaker of this session? I couldn't catch his name but
he seemed keen on Hegel.
Greetings from the 19th to the 20th Century: I bring you the stately
matron named Christendom, handmaiden of Empire, returning bedraggled and
dishonored from pirate raids in Kiao-Chow, Manchuria, South Africa and
the Philippines, with her soul full of meanness, her pocket full of
boodle, and her mouth full of pious hypocrisies. Give her soap and a
towel, but hide the looking glass. Mark Twain -- December 31, 1900
