Historian though I may be, I find historical discussions of limited
use in terms of concrete politics. Much better to focus on what we
need to be doing now.
I had hoped that Occupy would galvanize the socialist left around the
need to take a common strategic orientation towards mass action . . .
which would take us a long way towards making the abstraction of a
regroupment more concrete.
Unfortunately, there seems to be very limited moves in this direction.
Most of the organizations seem willing to let MoveOn and the
Democrats set the tone of Occupy in most places, and the election year
brings out a lot of the most sectarian tree-house building impulses
We should consider a broad national conference or something to discuss
strategic issues posed by Occupy.
