Without wanting to speak for the authors, I think the argument is that, in
this context, geoengineering is, more or less explicitly, intended to
allow capital accumulation to proceed uninterrupted and so in that sense,
while it's often put forward as the
 ultimate response to climate denialists, it shares their key assumptions,
in that it takes off the table any attempt to fundamentally change how
production takes place.
