The Michael Roberts blog that was cross posted here makes a lot of good
pint, but and so did Alan Thornett's piece, but Thatcher could never have
won victories for capitalism without a lot of luck, most importantly the
North Sea oil discoveries which allowed the UK to switch from coal to
natural gas.

The Christian Science Monitor wrote a piece on this which is pretty good.

How North Sea oil helped Margaret Thatcher

While Margaret Thatcher was reforming Britain's economy, new oil
discoveries in the North Sea were turning the nation into an energy
powerhouse. The surge in resources and employment softened the oil-price
shocks of the late 1970s and helped Prime Minister Thatcher pull the
country out of economic stagnation.
