People have to understand that what Ralph Nader or Bernie Sanders "stand
for" is much less important than the act of running an independent
campaign. Henry Wallace's "program" in 1948 was the conventional wisdom
of the liberal wing of the New Deal but that doesn't explain the ganging
up on him from their co-thinkers in the media. The bourgeoisie is
absolutely committed to keeping liberals corralled in the DP because a
breach to its left, even if tepid, threatens to open a hole in the dike
with the possibility of drawing in the working class. If Sanders runs as
an independent, he will get my endorsement.
