But Qatar's sordid motives or America's or Saudi Arabia's (of course,
Iran and Russia are pure as the driven snow) has nothing to do with your
hatred of Syrian revolutionaries. From the minute they picked up a gun
to defend peaceful protests, they became a "color revolution" because
Thomas Friedman or Nicholas Kristof wrote an op-ed piece championing
their cause. They could have called themselves the Rosa Luxemburg
brigade and it would have not made a difference. People like you fancy
yourself as the external bureau of the Venezuelan and Cuban revolution
and look for all the bad points to be made about the rebels. With
Qaddafi and al-Assad getting benedictions from Granma International,
RT.com, and PressTV.com, there is no need to familiarize yourself with
the views of the Syrian opposition. They are the same as the Nicaraguan
contras, Jonah Savimbi, et al just because some op-ed columnist praises
them. God forbid that they get weapons from Qatar (as if out of an
eyedropper.) Everybody knows that the only path open to them would have
been to hurl Meszaros's books at al-Assad's helicopters and hope that
they get caught in the rotors. It is as if the world had not changed
since 1985. Thirty fucking years for Russia and China to become
neoliberal and subimperialist powers and we look at Syria as if it was
some kind of socialist beachhead.
