Heartily agree with the comments here.

One of the things that radicalized me was working a succession of shit jobs
at various fast food or greasy spoon restaurants in high school and college
-- and reading during one such stint Orwell's description of a supposedly
high-classed French restaurant in "Down and Out in Paris and London."

(I tried to organize one of those places, and failed miserably, but that
too was a valuable experience.)
