Friday: 11:45am Bob Brenner: ‘The Causes of the Current Crisis’ & Hillel
Ticktin: ‘The Importance of War in Maintaining Capitalism’, 2pm

Cause of Crises’

‘From anti-Imperialism to pro-Germanism’, 1pm Alex Marshall: ‘Lenin's
Theory of Imperialism’ & Suzi Weissman: ‘Stalin’s Obsession with
Trotsky’, 3pm Savas Matzas: ‘1914 - The Dawn of an Epoch of Wars and
Revolutions’, Yassamine Mather: ‘WW1 and the Ottoman Empire’
We propose including the whole gamut of causes and consequences, given
the extraordinary nature of the First World War - its mindless cruelty
and destructiveness, on the one hand, but the fantastic explosion of
working class revolution throughout Europe on the other. The ruling
class was bent on compelling its citizens to fight to the last, for a
cause which disappeared into the mist. Imperialism, which was a crucial
underlying cause of the war, continues down to the present and
conceptions of imperialism will be developed and discussed.
