Can societies be commodities all the way down? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-3q3zvT1Os

How Capital is producing massive individual competition and its sequelae: aggressive/depressive subjectivities, fear, passivity and death. The new model for social life is the corporation itself. . .we are all commodities. . .primitive accumulation digs down into our very souls. . .nothing is sacred anymore, except neoliberalism.

--------------------

An acute analysis of the economic and political realities of neoliberalism
http://www.versobooks.com/books/1511-the-new-way-of-the-world

--------------------

An urgent reinterpretation of neoliberalism, Pierre Dardot and Christian Laval’s
HE NEW WAY OF THE WORLD provides a comprehensive account of neoliberal thought
nd practice, examining its intellectual development and interpreting the
mposition of its logic on nearly every facet of life.

Neither merely the return of laissez-faire policies nor just new clothing for
he old capitalist relations, Dardot and Laval show neoliberalism to be a
omplex, highly developed political philosophy. Mapping the intellectual
urrents that have contributed to neoliberal thought, beginning with the Walter
ipmann Colloquium in 1938, the authors take us deep into the debates—between
rench reformers of classical liberalism, German ordo-liberals, and the major
igures of the Austro-American economic school, among others—through which a
eoliberal agenda was forged.

Thoroughly expanding upon Foucault’s groundbreaking lectures on biopolitics,
ardot and Laval argue that neoliberalism is more than a narrow economic
hilosophy, showing it to be a totalizing rationality that has made competition
he guiding principle not only of the market, but work, education, and many
ther spheres. This rationality produces its own subjects who see themselves as
nterprises in general competition with other human enterprises.

Offering a detailed history of neoliberal thought and clear-eyed analysis of its
ubious achievements, The New Way of the World takes a hard look at the
olitical and intellectual challenges posed by this latest rationality of
apitalism.
