'Broad left parties': Murray Smith replies to Socialist
    Alternative's Mick Armstrong <http://links.org.au/node/3919>

By *Murray Smith*
June 23, 2014 -- /Links International Journal of Socialist Renewal/ --
Mick Armstrong of Socialist Alternative, Australia, has written an
article which sets out to criticise what I have written over the last 15
or so years on broad left parties ("A critique of the writings of Murray
Smith on broad left partes" (PDF), /Marxist Left Review/, Summer 2014).
I would like to reply to some of the points that he makes.

The 'Asian Century' and ASEAN integration: contradictions and
    challenges (now with video)

[The following talk was presented by *Sonny Melencio*, chairperson of
Partido Lakas ng Masa-Philippines (Party of the Labouring Masses),
during the Socialist Alliance 10th national conference in Sydney,
Australia on June 7, 2014.]/
Links International Journal of Socialist Renewal/ -- When I was
travelling from Manila, coming here to Australia, I bought a copy of a
pocketbook that I could read in the plane. It was Dan Brown's novel
entitled /Inferno/. Actually, when the hardbound copy of this book first
hit the bookshops, the Philippines went crazy about a small part of the
novel which referred to Manila as the "gate of hell".

Socialist Alliance: No more military intervention in Iraq!

Statement by *Socialist Alliance* (Australia)
June 19, 2014 -- The US, Australia and other partners-in-crime in the
war on Iraq must not be allowed to use the latest developments in that
country to increase their military intervention in the region. The
Socialist Alliance adds its voice to others in Australia rejecting Prime
Minister Tony Abbott's all-the-way-with-the-USA commitment made to US
President Barack Obama over Iraq.

Discussion: The 'Russia is imperialist' thesis is wrong

By *Roger Annis*
June 18, 2014 -- The violent coming to power of a rightist regime in
Kyiv, Ukraine in late February 2014 has opened an exceptionally
dangerous political period in Europe. For the first time since World War
II, a European government has representatives of fascist parties as
ministers. These are the ministers of the armed forces, prosecution
service and agriculture, and deputy ministers of national security
(police), education and anti-corruption.

Does Ireland need a new left party? <http://links.org.au/node/3913>

By *Helena Sheehan*
June 16, 2014 -- Does Ireland need a new left party? Yes. Why? We are
involved in a colossal class struggle and we are not winning.

We need to confront the very system that is demanding ever more drastic
redistribution of wealth from below to above, accelerated accumulation
by dispossession, continuing dismantling of the public sphere in favour
of private property and commodified culture.

It is not enough to go issue to issue, to oppose cuts, to denounce

Links seeks to promote the international exchange of information,
experience of struggle, theoretical analysis and views of political
strategy and tactics within the international left. It is a forum for
open and constructive dialogue between active socialists coming from
different political traditions. It seeks to bring together those in the
international left who are opposed to neoliberal economic and social
policies. It aims to promote the renewal of the socialist movement in
the wake of the collapse of the bureaucratic model of "actually existing
socialism" in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe.
