Michael Lebowitz takes on the "color revolutions" that Venezuela
resisted. I may find time to reply to this at greater length but for the
time being will only comment on this:
"We need to recover the concept of democracy and practice."
If this is the lesson to be learned from the Venezuelan revolution, why
do its leaders from Hugo Chavez to Nicolas Maduro throw their support
behind someone like Bashar al-Assad? If the goal is 21st century
socialism, why does the support for Iran, Syria, Russia, China and the
BRICS counterhegemonic sphere remind me so much of the excuses once made
for Joseph Stalin? At least under Stalin, you could point to a planned
economy and SOE's as fucked up as it was. Did Baathist "socialism", one
distinguished by a crony of the dictatorship gobbling up 60 percent of
the economy, somehow seduce the Chavistas? Love is blind, I guess.
