As it happens, Hudson is actually the godson of Leon Trotsky. His father was Carlos Hudson who was one of the Trotskyists who went to prison in 1941 for opposing WWII.

Interesting piece by Michael Hudson’s godfather Carlos Hudson (who also wrote under pseudonym Jack Ranger) in 1934 (“Inside the C.C.C. Camps (March 1934) about the depression era Civilian Conservation Corps - a much-praised and misunderstood part of FDR’s New Deal. As he shows, conditions were scarcely distinguishable from prison work camps. A means of social control particularly effective with farm boys with no experience of the subculture of urban labor. Capital in effect killed two birds with one stone: they swept up farm youth driven from farms in the drought and depression to do work for pennies, extracting from and maintaining for capital the valuable forests of rural America - who could then send their meager earnings (“working 40 hours weekly, he receives the munificent sum of $1.25 – or slightly over 3 cents an hour”) home to the strapped families in Kansas and elsewhere in the midwest who otherwise would have been on the dole:
