List members may be interested in a book that I have recently edited and self-published - Silent Agitators: Cartoon Art from the Pages of New Politics.
The book contains twenty-nine short chapters on various facets of leftist cartooning, past and present. Featured cartoonists include Peter Kuper, Ruben Bolling, Phil Evans, Sabrina Jones, Harvey Pekar, Steve Brodner, Nick Thorkelson, Tim Sanders, Art Young, and Lisa Lyons, with essays by Paul Buhle, Michael Mark Cohen, Gary Martin, and Kent Worcester. While most of the book’s essays and interviews appeared in New Politics from 2003-2016, it closes with a 1912 essay by Eugene Debs on “The Cartoonist and the Social Revolution.” The comics historian Charles Hatfield calls Silent Agitators “useful, eye-opening, and cool…a unique and necessary volume that taught me a great deal. Highly recommended!”
The book retails for $10 and is available at two New York City bookstores, Book Culture at 112 Street between Amsterdam and Broadway, and Shakespeare and Co. at 69th and Lexington Avenue. For the next three weeks the book is available as a promotional giveaway for new subscribers to New Politics. See www.newpol.org<http://www.newpol.org> for details. Copies are not available on Amazon but are available from Bolerium Books in San Francisco.
