Yves Smith has a knack for summing up – in this case, the obvious: how many ways can you say, “It’s the economy, stupid” before the Clintons get their own favorite message? Although what they do about it if they do get it is something else.

And as the crusty, on-message old socialist, despite the protracted media blackout, is awarded extended, well-earned national exposure http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-election/democrats-add-four-more-debates-n510691, gaining traction constantly especially among the young (supported “by a staggering 84 to 14 among voters under 29, and 53-37 on voters 30 to 45“), is it down hill for Hillary, with her whole multi-billion dollar entourage? Despite her probable lock on the superdelegates, it’s more and more possible, according to Yves Smith, and Robert Borosage https://ourfuture.org/20160202/the-iowa-winnow.

And then what? As was said of another reviled New York City product, “We’ll have to shut you down”?

How far are the authoritarian regimes prepared to go in extending repression domestically as well as globally, with the global economy on cliff-edge https://thenextrecession.wordpress.com/), chronic structural unemployment rising for thousands of millions in all parts of the world http://www.bbc.com/news/business-28062071, a crumbling, unraveling environment, with another Vietnam quagmire, in spades, facing them in the middle east (intractablr war openly or tacitly declared on “terrorist” Islam, with its 1-1/2 billion adherents) - and domestically in the so-called "advanced countries", the accelerating "downward equalization of the differential rate of exploitation", the precarious ponzi-economy - caught out there with their pants down without a plan?

One thing that seems increasingly sure (following the thought of Meszaros p. 155ff https://books.google.com/books?id=TfpICgAAQBAJ&pg=PA160&lpg=PA160&dq=meszaros,+another+world+is+possible+and+necessary&source=bl&ots=pZvF1BmVTz&sig=q8AH2VDT9zuwMeLEc7wmmnL5fNE&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiw0p6did3KAhXHPiYKHScSCvsQ6AEIKjAC#v=onepage&q=meszaros%2C%20another%20world%20is%20possible%20and%20necessary&f=false) is that international solidarity under these conditions will not be just an abstract postulate. Its material grounding is occurring in the unfolding, deepening conflicts and contradictions in the conditions of workers everywhere, including in the capitalistically most privileged countries; capital is forced by considerations of continued profitability and maintenance of vast military expenditure and other capital-accumulation-related waste essential to its viability, to seize even those few concessions fought for over the years by limited sectors of labor in a few wealthier countries; we are in the midst of the global articulation and integration of capital having acquired a new dimension, especially in the last few decades, against its global workforce. The threats of forced migration are a growing indication.

The necessary offensive counter-moves, including appropriate and novel forms of organization and solidarity, exist as a potential amidst gathering necessity, to which we have responded in countless instances throughout human history, and could be poised, given developing material conditions, to do so again. With many lessons learned from our history and mistakes which we will not repeat, and with the beginnings of an alternative plan of action in the making, the prospects increase for a socialism that could capture and grip mass consciousness.
