Isn't this called the status quo bias in the behavioural economics
literature?  They were locked into the Democrats under FDR and there they
will stay until the lonely hour of the last instance.

Trump's function is to make Clinton look electable.  Sanders to give him
some credit is managing to make her look unelectable.
The CPUSA always functions to make the Democrat look electable.  Unless of
course, if the Democrat candidate by some freak was a genuine socialist
then the CPUSA would refuse to endorse him or her.
