[Marxism] Freedom for Kanaky/New Caledonia

The French continue to hold several territories in the Pacific - most
notably 'French Polynesia' (centred on Tahiti) and Kanaly (New Caledonia).

The struggle for independence in these direct colonies is very difficult
because French policy has been to settle people from France (in recent
decades, since the emergence of strong independence movements). Because
the local populations are relatively small, it has been quite easy for the
French state to settle enough people from France to outnumber the locals
and thus ensure a permanent majority in opposition to independence.

Within the next 12 months there will be a referendum on self-determination,
however, in Kanaky/New Caledonia.
