While two working class women and a middle class gay man were the prime
victims in the Profumo Affair, times were changing for other working class
women in the Britain of the 1960s.
Struggles by working class women gave the impetus to the emergence of the
women's liberation movement there. In particular, the struggle for equal
pay and the strike at the Ford plant at Dagenham on the outskirts of
