There's a tendency to romanticize the Seattle '99 protests. Indeed, it
was the faux "insurrectionary" character of the street confrontations
that drove many anarchists to try to mechanically repeat the "success"
as if the goal was to foment street rioting rather than actually
mobilize powerful class forces that could put a damper on WTO, et al.
