The BBC is not excellent when they try to do affirmative
action/multicultural stories, it all very obviously toes a political line
in sync with Downing Street, but this has some very good nuggets of info.
Recently there's been chatter on Facebook about the origins of racism and
whether it predates the creation of "scientific racism" as a construct of
the early modern period. I think this shows that the prejudice against
phenotype and dark skin is a longtime bias going back to antiquity. Those
who formulated scientific racism in the 18th and 19th century merely were
capitalizing off antecedents.
